Two webinars were held in late November 2020: the first webinar focused on institutional change to the reward of teaching, while the second webinar looked at collective or national changes that bring together a group of universities. A new series of videos has been posted which outlines key activities of the Advancing Teaching initiative and showcases the progress made by universities and countries across the world in improving the reward and recognition of teaching. The videos are available here.
In addition, two webinars on the reward of university teaching, open to the full higher education community, will be held in late November 2020. The first will take place on Monday 23rd November 9:30-11:00am (CET) and will look at the challenges and opportunities associated with institution-wide change to university career pathways and systems of rewarding teaching. The second webinar will take place on Friday 27th November 9:30-11:00am (CET). It will look at the progress made in collaborative, country-wide changes to university reward systems and the challenges and opportunities associated with national reform. Key findings from the 2019 Teaching Cultures Survey are now available as both a full colour report and a low-colour version for printing at home. The first of the Advancing Teaching video series is also available to accompany this report which includes an introduction to the survey and feedback from two participating universities – the University of Auckland in New Zealand and Radboud University in the Netherlands. More videos will be added over the coming weeks – the next will look at the various national collaborations that are driving far-reaching change to academic career pathways in countries across the world.
The next Advancing Teaching meeting was due to be held on 16th and 17th April 2020. Due to the travel restrictions imposed by Covid-19, the meeting has been postponed until 29th and 30th April 2021 at the Trippenhuis in Amsterdam. In the meantime, a video series will be prepared (based on interviews with leaders and change agents at participating universities) that highlight key developments and global progress across the group. This will include, for example, developments in various countries to catalyse collective change to national academic career pathways, the major challenges to change faced by universities and exemplar career frameworks implemented at selected universities worldwide. A series of webinars on the reward and recognition of university teaching will be organised later in the year, to be held at a range of time zones.
